Leadership

"If I have the belief that I can do it, I will surely acquire the capacity to do it, even if I may not have it at the beginning" - Mahatma Gandhi

For any 17-18 year old, studies would be a high priority. It is for me too. Besides my academic work however, I have constantly strived to develop the leadership potential in me. I am fortunate enough to receive valueable opportunites like the ones I will share below that has allowed me to realize that I was never meant to be a follower.

CHIJ St. Joseph's Convent
Student Council President

From the youngest executive member in Secondary 2, I worked my way up in becoming the Student Council President in 2007/8. During the course of my office, I planned several activities such as Chinese New Year Celebrations, Sports Day,Teachers' Day and Student Council Investiture. The most significant leadership experience was received as the camp commander of the orientation camp that my council and I organized for the Secondary one students. With 400 students's safety in our hands for 3 days and 2 nights, it was an extremely challenging yet enriching experience.

With so many activities planned and having an extremely bonded council, the one year experience as the student council presidentserved as a major milestone in my life. Due to which I am going to share my stepping down speech.

Debates Coach

In my final year in CHIJ SJC, i was given the opportunity to represent my school in one of my favourite activities, that is debates. More than arguing, debates is the art of expressing your ideas confidently. Debates contributed a whole lot of confidence in me. Upon graduation, I returned to my secondary school to train the younger batch of debators. I am extremely proud to say that CHIJ SJC had emerge as champions in the Debate Championship held by Debates Association.

Ngee Ann Polytechnic
Red Camp Leader

Upon entering Ngee Ann Polytechnic, I felt a little out of place, being just one of the thousand faces that were in the polytechnic. I was however able to see myself as a leader once again upon successfully being chosen as a Red Camp 6 Leader. Red Camp is organized for secondary school levers who are deciding where to go after their O levels. It was a great experience working with other brillant leaders with the same goal of making the camp, a work of brillance.

Mentoring President

As mentioned in My CCA page, I am currently in the BP Mentoring Scheme. After 3 months of sessions and orientation camp, I landed the opporutnity to hold the position of president for the club. It was an honour to be given such a position especially as I was able to lead a team towards giving a helping hand to the needy. As i continue to hold this position, I hope to make a difference during my term of office and be able to put a smile on each child that our mentoring scheme works with.
